Persepolis opened to huge critical acclaim, with a Rotten Tomatoes approval rating of 96% and 90/100 Metacritic on IMDB. It is a powerful and shocking portrayal of the Iranian revolution in the late 1970s. With Satrapi's evocative visual and animation style, this film moves between the horror of what Satrapi and all Iranians went through, whilst also demonstrating a profound love for her country and its people. Even 12 years after the films release, Persepolis is discussed, screened and studied by film students across the country.
