A few Booking Tips for Mobile Disco's and DJ's
First, before you even contact a mobile disco company, it's vital that you don't have your mind on hiring the cheapest you can find - As with most things, you generally get what you pay for.
For example, If you are getting married and your budgeting £300 plus for the wedding cake, A further £300 plus on flowers etc, why would you expect to pay less than a few hundred pounds for a professional DJ? - Take a look at your budgets and make sure the Entertainment isn't at the bottom as they are the ones responsable for entertaining you and your guests and can quite possibly make of break your celebration.
Types of Questions a professional DJ should be asking include (In no particular order):
• Date of function - Good DJ's are seldom available at short notice, also there would be little point in talking to a prospective DJ for half an hour only to find he or she is not available on the date or your function!
• Type of function - Wedding, birthday, kids party etc -
• Venue, Full address of and any requirements/rules they impose in line with there Licence
• Number of guests - Important as a pro DJ will match the amount of equipment required based on this.
• Perfomance times (Start and finish times) and Setup time.
• Particular music requirements - To make sure they can cater for your tastes, After all there is no point hiring a House DJ for your 60's night or vice versa!
• Access to venue. - Is it on the ground floor or is there a flight of stairs to navigate? - If we have not worked at your venue we will research it for you to ensure the agreed timings are adhered to.
Type of Questions YOU should be asking of the vendor:-
• Do you hold Public Liability Insurace (PLI)? - This is for the safety of you, your guests and the venue.
• Do you hold a Portable Appliance Test (PAT) Certificate for your equipment? - This is a scheme which all mobile appliances should have to be in line with the electricuty at work act.
• Can I have my Quote Itemised and placed in Writing - Some companies operate different sized or styles of rigs or may have hidden surchages for Inconveniences like access via flights of stairs, Make sure you know what you are getting.
• Can I see a copy of your Terms and Conditions - Read the small print - Different companies operate in different ways, Make sure you know the ins and outs of the booking agreement you have signed taking note of importand features such as cancelation notices and payment dates.
Once you are happy to make a booking with a company make sure they confirm everything in writing with a signed Booking Agreement of which there should be a copy for you to sign and return.. The Booking Agreement should lay out all details of the function - date, venue, times, overtime rates, Booking fees etc. This Agreement should be unbiased and offer protection and clarity to both parties.
Price can depend on location and the type of event but the average price for a Professional Mobile DJ and his equipment is between £200 and £400 for a 4 to 5 hour show, Any less than £200 and I'd be concerned that the vendor was not '100%', Although there are exceptions to the rules these are few and far between as It costs a lot of money to keep a profesional, Legal mobile disco on the road.
